First, I'm going to try and work on a new nicer layout for liek.net. Personally I don't like black very much. Maybe people will come here and post more stuff if it isnt so UGLY!

i dont know the technical side but i heard its fairly easier than perl to learn and has just as much power as well its a faster running scripting language, and largely because it was so easy to learn with the just minimal prior programming experience.

Perl is the fastest scripting language around, and also the most flexable. If you don't want to program then why bother scripting :)

I can fine 10 ways to do the same thing in perl. Perl doesn't require you to program in a 'style', it allows you to do what you want to do.

Perl goes way beyond just writing web scripts, its a language just as capable as anything else.
perl is more powerful, faster, more flexible, and making love to it is the best thing ev--ok maybe not that.

perl being more powerful, more flexible, and faster than php is common knowledge and has never been argued by anyone who uses them both. The end.

Perl goes beyond web programming because that wasn't what it was actualy made for, it was made to be run from a UNIX console to automate annoying and complex tasks, and was later given extentions that would make it usable as a web language.
PHP's one purpose in life is use on the web, proof of that is the fact that it sends headers automaticly, and processes QUERY_STRING for you and craps it out into variables. Each language serves its own purpose, and usualy does it pretty well.

PHP was designed as a web language, perl was not, however Perl was first. Perl does everything i need it to do for cgi scripts, and just because something can be easier doesn't make it better.
I don't know shit about either but I do know that the best web boards are made in PHP. UBB is slow as fuck, ikonboard is slow as fuck. IBF and VB (PHP boards with mySQL) are the fastest boards out. The CS forums took up to 10 minutes to load a single thread when they where using IB and UBB. And no, it had nothing to do with the server. The CS forums where damn fast when they used VB.

Again it has to do with the code and how it works. UBB doesnt use mysql, it prints out html... which is more cpu intensive. IkonBoard in my opinion is bloated.
Yes, PHP was designed as a web language, but what most people don't know is that there is PHP-GTK which allows you to make stuff that runs on the server that may not deal with the web at all. However I would rather use Perl for that, since I don't really like how PHP-GTK is coded... Must learn more perl =)
